True friendship they say, is rare and not easy to find. We leave in a world today where people associate with you because of your social status and what they can majorly get from you. One man has proven that this is not applicable to everyone, that one man is Gov. Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna state.
Recently, the Governor Ganduje dethroned and banished Emir Lamido Sanusi from Kano state.
The pair over the last few years had fallen out and attempts had been made to resolve their differences but the two remained unflinching. Their relationship deteriorated towards the end of Ganduje's first tenure as Kano state Governor and eventually during his reelection, it was speculated that the Emir supported Abba of the PDP against Ganduje.
Eventually, Ganduje has now Dethroned Sanusi and banished him to Awe in Nassarawa state. But to the surprise of Nigerians, President Buhari claimed to be unaware and rather kept mute about the power tussle in Kano Emirate.
One man however, stood tall and remembered his friend, a friendship that has spanned over 3 decades. That man is Basis El-Rufai of Kaduna state.
El-Rufai quickly paid the banished Emir a visit in far away Nassarawa state, and before we knew it, the case was already in court requesting for the freedom of Sanusi Lamido Sanusi II, the case was heard in court and the Judge has ordered the immediate release of the embattled Emir from Solitary confinement.
As at yesterday, Elrufai accompanied Sanusi from Awe in Nassarawa to Abuja and From Abuja, finally to Lagos where the Emir has now relocated to.
A lot of Nigerians have been showering praises on Gov. Elrufai for damming all political consequences and standing by his friend. Truly, a friend in need is a friend indeed.
One can only keep watching on as more events unfold in the coming weeks but God bless Gov. Elrufai for these.
