Mallam Bello Yano, an Islamic Cleric has been arrested by the police for allegedly making a derogatory remarks including referring to the executive Governor of Kaduna state, Malam Nasir El-rufai as a "small bird".
According to Daily Trust. Malam Yabo was reportedly arrested in Sokoto on Friday by some plain-clothed policemen who came to his residence while saying the Asr prayer. He was immediately arrested after the prayer after the plain-clothed policemen called him aside and showed him a paper which turned out to be warrant of arrest issued by a Magistrate court in Kaduna.
Yabo in a video clip believed to be recorded in one of his Ramadan preaching had condemned Governor El-rufai and scholars of Kaduna state for the continuous ban on religious gathering in the state.
In the video, he disparaged the Kaduna state council of Ulamah for allowing what he described as a ‘small bird’, referring to El-rufai to be dictating to them.
Reports however shows that this is not the first time the cleric will be arrested at the instance of a sitting Governor, as he was arrested and detained during Governor Attahiru Bafatawa’s tenure in Sokoto state over similar conduct.
It is now believed that the cleric will be taken to court after the Sallah break.
