The Governor of Edo Obaseki meets with President Buhari, speaks on his ‘return’ to APC

Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, Friday, paid a ‘thank you’ visit to President Muhammadu Buhari at the State House Abuja.
Godwin Obaseki, met with President Muhammadu Buhari on

Friday, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Speaking with State House correspondents after the meeting, he declared that it would be “immoral” for him to return to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Obaseki won re-election in the last Saturday’s governorship election, which he contested under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

He defeated APC’s Osagie Ize-Iyamu with a margin of 84,336 votes.

Obaseki had dumped the APC for the PDP, when the ruling party disqualified him from participating in its primary election.

There have since been concerns that having won the election on the platform of the PDP, he might return to the APC.

But Obaseki, who met with Buhari alongside his deputy, Philip Shuaibu, said it would be immoral to do so.

He described his trip to Aso Rock as a “thank you visit” to Buhari.

The governor who was first elected in 2015 on the platform of APC, defected to PDP in the build up to the 2020 governorship election following his disqualification by the APC screening committee.

At the Council Chamber of the State House where President Buhari received the governor and his entourage were wife of the governor, Mrs Betsy Bene Obaseki; Edo Deputy Governor, Comrade Philip Shaibu; his wife, Mrs Maryam Shaibu; High Chief Tom Ikimi and Sen Clifford Ordia.

Also at the Council Chamber were Chief of Staff to the President, Prof Ibrahim Gambari; Minister of Information, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, and Minister of State Budget and National Planning, Prince Clem Ikande Agba.
